As this is my final newsletter as Florida’s Attorney General, I look back on the last eight years and I am so grateful to have served this great state. It has been the honor of a lifetime to be my home state’s chief legal officer. Since being elected in 2011, my office has made tremendous strides to reduce crime, save lives, protect consumers and make Florida the best state to live, work and raise a family.

When I first took office, Florida was referred to as the Pill Mill Capital of the United States. Through the shutdown of pill mills, cracking down on drug traffickers and comprehensive litigation to battle the opioid crisis, we have made significant progress to fight drugs in Florida. Efforts to eradicate human trafficking have progressed tremendously from new laws, raising public awareness and creating new resources to provide help for victims. Also, defending Florida consumers from fraud and scams, developing programs to prevent school shootings and aiding our military veterans have been just some of the many initiatives that I am proud to be a part of and hope will continue to be a priority going forward.

Of course, I could not have accomplished all the success we set out to achieve alone. Thank you to my Office of Statewide Prosecution, Consumer Protection Division and Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for bringing criminals to justice. Thank you to my Solicitor General's Office for your relentless dedication to the OAG and non-stop commitment to defend Florida’s Constitution. And a special thank you to ALL my incredible OAG staff, of which more than 2,200 have contributed during my tenure, who have demonstrated a great work ethic day in and day out.

To all the dedicated law enforcement officers throughout Florida currently serving, retired or that passed away, thank you for your brave and tireless efforts to keep Floridians safe. The law enforcement community has always been such a great partner with my office and I will miss working with all of you. I am also forever grateful to all federal law enforcement partners, as well as all state and federal prosecutors.

Furthermore, I want to wish the best to Governor Rick Scott and my fellow Florida cabinet members, CFO Jimmy Patronis, former CFO Jeff Atwater and Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam. I am thrilled for Senator-Elect Rick Scott and our country to have him representing our state in Washington, D.C. Thank you ALL for being such wonderful partners with me on this incredible journey.

Lastly, thank you Florida. It has been a privilege to represent our wonderful state and to serve you. I am so proud to be Florida’s first female Attorney General and I know my successor, Ashley Moody, will continue to do great things for this office and the state of Florida.
